There are a variety of Gaelic learning classes available in Lochaber. The Iomairt is committed to supporting the expansion of Gaelic adult learning in the area and actively supports Gaelic speakers wishing to become tutors using the Ùlpan method. We have organised training and supported Gaelic speakers with finance to undertake their Ùlpan tutor training.  

Ulpan Classes will commence in Fort William in February 2012.  Classes will run until June with a break for the February Week and the Easter holidays. 

Beginners Class  (This class will run for 14 weeks)

Unit 1 to 14 (Evening Class)  -Monday, 7pm to 9pm Lochaber High School. Starting 20th Feb.

Unit 1 to 14 (Day-time Class) –Thurs. 1pm to 3pm

First session at An Drochaid. Thereafter, at Lochaber House, High Street. Starting 23rd Feb. 

The cost, including the Ulpan registration fee, is £88.  £56 for Gaelic medium parents and Highland Council staff. 

Intermediate Class  (This class will run for 16 weeks)

Unit 64 to 79 (Evening) - Wed. 7pm to 9pm

Lochaber High School.  Starting 1st February

Unit 64 to 79 (Day-time)  -Wed. 1pm to 3pm

Venue to be confirmed. Starting 1st February 

The cost of this class is £72 or £36 for GM parents and HC Staff. 

Mallaig  -Beginners

Taster session -21st January. Saturday Classes thereafter.

In addition to formal Gaelic classes, the Iomairt also runs informal meet-up events in Lochaber. Currently Caibaireachd Abarach meets in the Skippinish Cèilidh House in Fort William once a week.  Please use the events section on the right hand side to access more information.
